About
San Miguel High School opened in 2004 in order to create a learning community where students from families of limited financial means can develop their full potential.
Components of that environment include:
A rigorous academic curriculum:
§ 4 days per week, all students attend six 65-minute class periods per day
o 4 years of English, Math, Theology
o 3 years of Science, Foreign Language, Social Studies
o 1 year of Reading and Visual Art
o Dual credit with Pima Community College for some upper division courses
§ 4-year college counseling of all students, to prepare them emotionally for college
§ Summer programs on college campuses throughout the nation available to all students to facilitate the transition to college after graduation
§ Continuous assessment to identify and address challenges as they arise
§ Individualized support for those most in need of basic academic skills-building
§ Intervention programs and peer-tutoring to prepare all students to succeed
